Hiya everyone. I’m Justgotreal, and I’m a minecraft addict. This is my first post on this site- Let’s have cake to celebrate!
Okay, now that’s out of the way, on with the review of the awesome HD Texture Pack: Dokucraft. The first word that came to me when I saw it was “Beautiful.” I’m using the “High” version, just so you all know. It’s a brilliant texture pack, though you really need to download the HD patcher or else Water and Lava will just be black with white text saying “Use the patcher noob”. So, you need to download a patcher, either “MCPatcher” or the less known “Optifog“. Click them to go to their respective pages on the forums.
Right, I’ll start off with reviewing the most used textures.
I absolutely love the wood and planks textures, shown below. They just really appeal to me- they’re the perfect balance of … well… everything, really. The wood looks so realistic I feel I could touch it, and the planks really look like the wood does only more orderly and organised which is good, because most minecraft addicts develop some form of OCD. The birch tree is the only one I’m not fond of, for reasons which I can’t quite put my finger on, but that doesn’t really make a huge difference as I pretty much only build in snow biomes (rain is too annoying).
The block on top the fences in my porch is Glowstone. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? I’m making a palace in Single Player (this was built on SMP) and the main ingredient is Glowstone.
I’m not such a fan of the stone textures, however. The cobblestone is okay (you can see it in the background- it’s the big wall thing) but the smoothstone isn’t… well… smooth, which kind of defeats the point of smoothstone. It’s too much like the cobble texture.
The ores are brilliant, except gold ore, but that’s because the gold ore hasn’t been redesigned yet so it’s just default. The redstone ore is probably my favourite- I can’t really tell why, but it’s just really well designed. The particles really startle me.
The liquids- water and lava- are probably the ultimate highlights of this pack. They’re just so indescribably beautiful. They’re the only parts of this pack that need the patch- the rest of it isn’t HD- but believe me, you really do need the patch. You’re missing out on a huge amount- more than you would think possible, considering the general scale. The lava looks more like magma really, but considering how slowly it moves that’s probably appropriate. I died in lava and lost 17 diamonds, and I didn’t mind too much because the lava is just so beautiful.
Well, I guess that concludes my first review. Hope you enjoyed it, and no Doku was not paying me to write this
